I have the same problem. Throughtout the week my ping was reaching 1000. A few minutes ago I checked it again and it was at 2000. Usually the ping is fine in the morning for a couple hours at most then jumps back up to 200+ making games unplayable. I have the smc router

Honestly I don't think the modem is the problem. I think the problem is on their end

I dunno wth is going on with Rogers but I have had this problem now for months.  Called in and they agreed something was wrong.  Did anything happen?  Nope.  My pings flucuate on a daily/weekly basis now.   One week it might be fine, the next week it jump 50-60 ms in everything.  Then one day it is fine, then the next it jumps up again.

I'm from Newfoundland and can safely say that Rogers is doing something to their lines, or something on their end witch is limiting bandwidth (again) and trying to hide it.  It feels like I'm being throttled but "not as much", and I don't even download torrents or anything.

A good example is Ventrilo.  Last week I would log onto my ventrilo server have have a Ping of 70.  This week so far, its 120 everyday.  How do I know its not ventrilo? because it happens in Battlefield 3 (which I had to stop playing because of this issue), and also in WoW.   One week my pings in Battlefield will be 60-70.  Same results in WoW.  But nope, now this week they are back up to 110-120 with major lag spikes and d/c's happening more and more frequent.

I was told "We are working on the lines" the last time this happened.  But now its just random. One day my internet will be worth what I'm paying.  The next its not worth near what I'm paying.  We are being ripped off anyways for what they charge, not to mention they RAISED the prices for what they claim is better service.  Guess what? Since the new "Speeds" and Priceing model has be release, my internet has been WORSE, so now I'm paying MORE for what is allready overpriced, and things got worse not better.

i cannot agree anymore. i been playing battlefield 3 and every time i go inside a vehicle my screen shakes all over because of the lag. if im lucky my ping goes to 25 with packet loss( more than 1% packet loss= totally unacceptable) but if im not i spike to 100-300 with 1-20% packet loss. rogers has done NOTHING about this besides give me a new modem which has not helped what so ever. eer since i switched from a docsis 2 modem its gotten worse and worse and now icannot switch back because i am using express.

I dont beleive this is specificaly a docsis 3 vs 2 modem issue.. at least not completely.

I am running a docsis 3 gateway now.. wireless (but with my own wireless AP, not the built in)...

And have better pings in WoW that i did prior to the D3 gateway.

Honestly I just think its poor maintenance on their end.  The lines get conjested and they stay conjested.  Or they don't reboot/maintain a proper network.   It makes 0 sense that one week my Ping is no higher then 70 in most games I play, and then the next I can't get better then 120.   L8ly (or at least for the past 3 weeks) my pings are so bad in FPS and RTS games that it is pointless to play them.

I also know its not a peak time issue, as my pings stay the same no matter what time of day.  Right now in vent my ping is 120.  3 weeks ago it was 65 to the same server.  My ping in wow is 135.  3 weeks ago it was 80.  I open up my server browser for BF3 and all my pings are 150.  3 weeks ago, 70-80.   I also can't stream videos without letting them buffer for 5-10 minutes.

And to answer all the typical questions one may "blame" it on.

Ive tried things directly connected to the modem.  No change.

I run a constant scan daily on my computer for virus and spyware.

Aside from security software, I have 3 games installed on my machine.  Thats it.  I only have 128gb of space, with everything else backed up on other harddrives, when I never use.

Windows 7 is up to date and the install is only a month old.

I do not visit any odd sites. I could actually list the 2 or 3 i visit and thats it.

I'm the only one that uses this computer.

I'm also a computer tech and know a nice bit about maintaining a proper machine so user problems don't arise.

Starting tommorow I will be calling Rogers everyday, until this is fixed.  You get hardly any responses from the online forums, so its pointless to keep coming back here since the issue IS on Rogers end.  Its just rediculous that I was online when the transition from good to crap happened.   Internet drops for 5-10 minutes, I get back online and all my pings are up 60-80 ms higher.  So something is going on.

that is pretty much what i do. i was going to buy sc2 but looking at my ping i decided not. it is becomming serious dam annoying seeing my friend no lag and download at VERY fast rates (40mbps) same plan and not lag ever. my computer was blamed on when a technician came over and eventually he left and i was STILL lagging. now my ping just says at 60 ping with packet loss. i tried tf2 today, and all the people were slideshow like moving, despite of my 120 fps. Rogers is terribad, and do nothing at all. also @zedonius666, what modem are you using? i maintain my machine well, running scans every few days, with browser protections and i rarely download things. I try to get my parents to call rogers, but all they respond is crap asking him if lights on modem are on. my ping was staying at 17ping 3 jit ALWAYS, never would i see people teleporting in games. now all i see is people moving as if they were a slideshow.

i believe it is rogers problem too, but they do nothing to help. its not a peak time issue because i check my ping constantly.
