E-mail alerts for which software? And for what purpose?

I am a Rogers employee, but my comments are my own and do not necessarily represent the views of Rogers or its affiliates. Je suis un(e) employé(e) de Rogers mais mes commentaires sont les miens et ne reflètent pas nécessairement le point de vue de Rogers ou d’une société de son groupe.

Hi nunner,

Welcome to the Community Forums!

If you have a Rogers e-mail address, depending on which method you use to access your e-mail, there are a number of ways you can get "New Mail" alerts.

If you use a program like Outlook/Outlook Express/Windows Mail, as long as you have that program open, you should receive a small envelope icon on your system tray (where the clock is) and you can configure the program to play an alert sound as well.

If you access your e-mail via Rogers Webmail, there's no setting to receive alerts for that. However, you can install the Rogers Yahoo Messenger at http://messenger.yahoo.com and sign in with your @rogers.com e-mail address and password. As long as you are signed in Yahoo Messenger, you will receive system tray alerts for new e-mail.

If you'd like more information on that, you can feel free to ask.

Wow... my brain didn't even put that together. Obviously you just want new mail notification. Clearly Reggie is on the ball.

His options are good.

You could also use a third party retriever like GMail to filter though. Though there's quite a delay in retrieving the mail (anywhere from 1-30 minutes in my experience), I use GMail to get all my email from numerous accounts and use the Google Talk application to alert me to new email.

Also, if you use FireFox, there is a Yahoo notification addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1264/

Which port is it asking for? If it's the SMTP port that it's asking for it's 587

For reference, here is all the email settings used by Rogers
