I plan to stick around

All,

I'm on the 2.0.10.24 firmware, no black dot CODA-4582.  After many posts I'm still trying to figure out certain things.  After seeing the DOCSIS Logs not have anything new in it for 3 days I rebotted the modem last night and this morning I see a lot of warning and critical.  The problem is I have no way of knowing what any of it means.  I know since signing up for the gigabit ultra plan I've never come close to the speeds.

I have a few questions and a posting of my DOCSIS WAN and DOCSIS Logs

1) How can someone detemine if DOCSIS 3.1 is available in their neighbourhod?
2) How can one tell if they are missing channels?
3) What do the various errors mean?

Soooo.... using v .24 this morning.... im getting the oddest set of results today, until now not able to get more than 100Mbps on any device.....

First, ive been getting MIMO and Non-ranging Response T3 errors still, about twice a day, even this morning about 5am.....

BUUUUT this morning, I ran a speeed test like I have been doing, and got 3 consistant results from both rogersspeedcheck and speedtest.net ... but this number seems to be impossible to me....

Rogers.jpg

First off... im using a mini-desktop, with only a 220W power supply, so there is no way I have an aftermarket LAN card because most LAN or PCI cards in general, require atleast a 300W power supply, so I shoulndt be able to get more than 100Mbps on my desktop... and this result was 3 times from 2 sites this moring, about 7:45am Toronto....

NOT COMPLAINING... LMAO.... Just curious as to if its a genuine result or just a fluke...

1) In the OFDM downstream section, you will see numbers for some values, rather than just "NO" and "N/A", the downstream light on your modem will be a slighlty lighter shade of blue than the upstream one.

2) You should have all channels from 1-32, you are missing a bunch

3) Not sure on all of them, but below links should help. Also RCS loss of service is when you lose channels.

Thanks for the links.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

Should I unplug/replay and keep an eye on things or would you suggest exchanging it?

I'm here a lot

Hey everyone

I've noticed recently while gaming I'm getting large ping spikes during the day.  For some reason in the past few days I've had to reboot my router after freezing as well.  I've seen mention about routers with a black dot(s) but when I look at mine I don't see any.  I did pick up the modem the first day I got the text regarding the upgrade.  Any ideas?

My current firmware version appears to be .19

Thanks!!

Tom

I would suggest going to your local Rogers store and exchange your modem for a black dot modem. The first batch of modems have a problem with the shielding and interference. The Black dot modems correct this issue.

Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

@Mike2011 swap the modem since you are missing channels.

Cannot see your image so i cant give an opinion on your speed, however im not sure where you got these numbers about LAN cards needing 300W but thats not true at all. There are many adapters out there that are low power and achieve gigabit ling speeds no problem. Link speed is determined by the adapter and the pother ends nagotiation and thorouput is more determined by the machine being able to compute fast enough to achieve the speeds rather than the power wattage.

I have an Atom PC with a 4 port server NIC in it, it runs off a 65W power supply.

If your desktop isnt geriatric, changes are it has a gigabit NIC in it, its been standard since the early 2000's in a lot of machines.

Thanks for the advice!  I just exchanged it today for a 2 black dot modem as I've read these are newer.  They had single black dot modems in stock but I figured since this is newer its "better" somehow? What is the difference?

It has been determined that this is just a logistical thing, and there is zero difference between 1 and 2 dot modems, except of course that the 2 dot modems have one more sticker than the 1 dot modems.

Hello ALL,

@RogersDave @CommunityHelps

I am now on my 3rd CODA-4582 (2black dots on all them) and all upgraded to .24 firmware, and the issue has not been fixed. Upon reboot I receive 700+Mbps and within minutes it stalls down to <2Mbps eventually times out and then reboots the modem on its own. The telephone staff has NOT been helpful and each rep just pushes out the same .24 firmware and tells me it should fix it, not knowing anything about this beta release. I need some real techincal help, because there only suggestion afterwards seems to be to return to a Rogers store and rollback to a Rogers old black rocket modem... which are next to impossible to find. Posting my logs below.. someone PLEASE help!!

Thanks for the tip.  I swaped out the modem and rceceived one with a black dot.

I noticed that I had normal channels from 1 to whatever it was and then when I changed the time zone on the unit to Eastern they were counting down from 40.

Here's the lastest

its not bad but the other night my xbox had a strict NAT and now it back to open NAT I have DMZ my xbox and port forwarded all ports..

@kozhitnrun first off, you dont need to opent he ports and DMZ the xbox... if you put it in DMZ, its already got unrestricted access.... try removing your DMZ and just use the port forwarding, as its more secure that way...

In the even you continue to recieve strict NAT after a DHCP Reservation for your xbox and port forwarding rules active, then try again with the port forwarding off and just using DMZ....

One of those ways should deff give you open NAT all the time, or atleast Moderate, which is basically the same, just might have the occational issue joining/inviting/hosting games on the 360 emulated games, but to just play online, should be always fine, only if trying to create your own party and some chat features, having unopen NAT is an issue.

HELLO

ok i was wondering if last night's thunderstorm was the cause for my Xbox going into a restricted NAT in mid game as we lost power slightly in my area,I have my Xbox DMZ and all port for my Xbox open in the port forward tab.also was wondering if I use the private LAN settings to assign my Xbox the same IP from the modem would that help solve the strict NAT issue...mind you now i have a open NAT but if it goes into a strict NAT while in streaming or upload videos everything goes to garbage

HELP PLEASE, and this new KODA modem is amazing ifIcould post my wifi speeds and wired speeds you all would love it .ie on my network my phone is on 5g and 120.61down and 12.65 up, wired on my pc 73.49down 19.05up why it's like that I have no clue but there still doing work on local box, but wired I have hit down speeds of 492 and up speeds of 25

I use port forwarding for the reason of the 2 capture cards I use to record my stream mod and live stream at the same time if those port are not open my elegato and obs get squirrely .i have tried just DMZ ya it works most times.

I'm here a lot

So now that i've got my 2dot modem with .24 up and running i'm noticing the same issue where the speed slows down over time and requires me to reboot the modem.  Is this common, or should I try to replace it yet again.  While gaming i noticed severe ping spikes last night that seem to resolve themselves, but when playing an FPS online, moments of lag can really ruin your experience.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Prior to rebooting my modem just now my speed was down to about 100mbps on rogers speedcheck, i could not even get a test to get started on speedtest.net

Thanks!

Tom
