@RogersErin You state "We created our forums based on handset manufacturer, not operating system". If that is the case, why is there an Apple sub-forum? iPhones are manufactured by FoxConn, loaded with the iPhone OS and branded as Apple. Your excuse makes absolutely no sense!

It seems too me that RogersErin has revealed a great deal in this response--including what I am guessing is a company wide lack of understanding of its (potential) customers. When individuals choose to buy feature rich smart phones, chances are they are looking at operating systems.
Of course, Rogers is free to do whatever they like on this forum, but I don't want to have to look at three different manufacturers board when I am looking for information on the newest crop of Android phones. Fortunately, I can skip this forum altogether and camp out at Howard Forums.

I see. The phones are broken into manufacturers. Lets look at the many manufacturers they have listed:
1) Apple - Makes sense. They design and manufacture the iPhone and iOS. +1 point
2) Blackberry - Well... that's not really a manufacturer, is it. It's a brand. -1 point
3) Other - ...
Okay, I'll just give my advice on the subject. When offering technical support, break it down by platform, not by hardware manufacturer. Hardware manufacturer is largely irrelevant when it comes to this. When somebody calls in with a question about their usb internet stick do you ask them if they have a Dell, VAIO, Compaq, Acer, Asus, Mac or Gateway computer or do you ask what operating system they're running?

Redth wrote:Yeah, so far it's clear that there's no much Android love going on with Rogers.... If I could buy a Galaxy S right now I'd have done that instead of the iPhone4, or even a Nexus One, but I'm still waiting for a decent android device from Rogers...
Nexus One was available directly from Google, I got one and love it. The Samsung Galaxy S IS coming to Rogers soon as well in the form of the "Samsung Galaxy S Captivate"

Operating systems were partially created for hardware independance and phones ***WITH*** an operating system need to be separated by O/S and not who manufactured them. If there is no user accessible O/S then the phone needs to be isolated by manufacturer, yes, as it uses anotherproprietary O/S internally, anyway.
OTOH: Why support Android, only ? Nokia will be using Windows on their phones and there are a few others already popular on phones. Take a look at the new smart phones. Users claim some runs circles around Android for speed.
Me thinks Rogers bit off more than they can chew with a forum. It can grow past the point of one person attempting to manage it into a crew of full time, around the clock crew and a board of directors, very quickly.
