The major differences are:
BB9700 || BB9780
256MB Internal Memory || 512 MB Internal Memory
512 MHz processor || 624 MHz processor
3.2 MP camera || 5 MP Camera
BT 2.0 supported || Bluetooth 2.1 supported
And the BB9780 comes with OS 6 stock; whereas you have to upgrade the software on the BB9700 as OS 5 is the stock software.
