Silent SMS messages being sent to 49988?

I was testing out Extreme Text Messaging and set Copy to another number. I noticed that my iPhone was sending out text messages which were not recorded in the phones Messages list, but were being copied to my other number. After doing some digging, I found that the messages were going to 49988. Does anyone have any idea what this is all about?

The message is used by facetime http://theiphonewiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Facetime
