Thanks, Meowmix.  All I would ask of Rogers is a little courtesy and to be treated like a human being as opposed to being fed a script.  I worked for the support arm of a major computer company a few years back and recall how happy it made customers when I deviated from the pat responses I was supposed to stick to, and treated them like people instead of dollar signs.  I get the feeling that doesn't occur here very often, if ever.

I think I'll root my Nexus S and try CM9, this is just horses**t.

Well, I have a problem with Kate's statement, it was incredibly well written, she did not confirm nor deny that Roger's indeed has and or is in the process of testing the latest ICS update.

We ARE NOT Google customer's, we are Roger's customer's and as such the least we should expect here is transparency, openess and honesty. Understand that Roger's did not cause the to begin with, the least they could do is realize that and not compound the problem. After all, they sold us the i9020a Nexus S variant to begin with!

Hi folks,

There's obviously been some confusion here with regards to this particular OS update.

The Nexus series of Google devices receive OS updates directly from Google. The Samsung Nexus S is no different - OS updates will come directly from Google, delivered OTA (over the air) by Samsung.

This is a case where we do not have any role in the device's OS update. We don't receive the update from Google or Samsung, and we don't deliver it to our customers.

Sorry for the confusion!

I have not yet received any update so far. Very excited for it, but hate not knowing when. Wondering why it would be such a long wait from the time of the announcement.

Has anyone else received the update with their Rogers Nexus S yet?

I got tired of waiting, and went to the XDA forum. I was able to upgrade without rooting, simply by putting the new ROM on the SD card and flashing it from recovery mode. Am now running 4.0.4 and checking out all the new goodies on it. It took 15 minutes.

Do this to get the ics 4.04 OTA on your nexus.

Manage APPs -> ALL->Google services Framwork: clear data ->dial *#*#2432546#*#* (*#*#checkin#*#*)

I had to do this 4 time before I got the notice for an update.

I would like to confirm the method Creauix suggests works flawlessly. I tried icu's method several times without success. What I did was:

  1. Download the image
  2. Rename downloaded file to update.zip.
  3. Copy the update.zip file to the phone’s internal storage.
  4. Turn the phone off, press and hold Volume Up and Power to boot into the bootloader.
  5. Using Volume Up/Down select “recovery” and press Power button.
  6. After the exclamation point in a triangle appears, hold the Power button and press Volume Up.
  7. Using Volume Up/Down select “apply update from /sdcard” and choose the update.zip.
  8. After the update process is finished, select “reboot system now” and press Power.

I am now running 4.0.4 - I also tried unsuccessfully the *#*#2432546#*#* several times (each time clearing data from the Google Service Framework) to get it to download automatically first.

I am now the proud owner of a Nexus S again, 4.0.4 is sweet.

The download URL works like a charm.  every app seems to work so far.  Firefox is definitely crisper.

Thanks Google for my birthday present, one day early!
