CHECKIN METHOD--
I had tried this MANY MANY MANY times.. with no luck.. UNTIL--
I took out the simcard, and restarted the phone.
When it booted up the update was waiting for me.
Settings on my phone when it finally worked:
DATE: Manually set to OCTOBER 2012
GPS: ON (may have some influence on whether you will get the update according to certain forums)
WIFI: ON (at Roger's data rates... )
SYNC: ON (does it matter? I dont know)
BLUETOOTH: OFF (does it matter? Probably not)
GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK: Cleared -- Manage apps->Goolge services framework-> clear...
SIMCARD: Removed before restart
BATTERY: Removed for one minute before restart, make sure you have a decent amount of juice...the update consumed around 25% of my battery.. maybe more.
When I restarted my phone the update was there imediately. I didnt need to do the CHECKIN dialing (though I'd done it 3,753 times beforehand..)
FYI, the update does seem to take some time... after installing, and restarting, the phone spent some time "optimizing applications" which took time (lots of apps, lots of waiting)...
Everything seems to be working with the exception of a couple of widgets...
Good luck to all!

Google has released the 4.0.4 updates for the Galaxy Nexus & the Nexus S.
They are available here:
If some Rogers customers haven' t receive the 4.0.4 updates on their Galaxy Nexus & Nexus S yet, it's because Google doesn't updates these devices, Samsung does.

I thought the whole point of getting a Google phone was that you get the updates OTA without having to wait for the manufacturer or carrier to release it?
My brother has a Nexus S through Wind instead of Rogers and he got the 4.0.4 update 2 weeks ago OTA.

If that's true that the Nexus S sold by Rogers is not updated by Google, I was mislead by Rogers when I purchased this phone. I was told one of the selling features was that I would receive updates directly from Google so I wouldn't have to wait near as long to get the update. So apparently Rogers flat out lied to me?
Does this mean I have to wait until Samsung puts out the 4.0.4 update?
