"Seeing as Rogers is the only carrier with true 4G LTE network (only in Ottawa but thats sure to change soon I'd imagine), I'd imagine that may be the reason they arent focusing on dual core devices atm. Why spend all the money and resources to get a 3G dual Core device when in ~6 months they could potentially offer an LTE dual core device...
...."

I think you hit the nail right on the head - the problem with Rogers is that they're relying too much on the new LTE network as its main selling point while neglecting to introduce phones that people want.  I think Rogers made a poor decision  because:

- Rogers underestimated the draw of the SG2 and will lose a lot of customers (especially those who are knowledgable of phones) to Bell. These customers will soon commit 3 years to Bell for one of its many upcoming dual-core phones.

- LTE is only expected to be launched in Ottawa and Toronto this year while the other cities will have to wait to next year. Therefore, the impact of the LTE on its customer base this year is minimal. Rogers is basically alienating a big chunk of its customer base for the sake of 2 markets. At the same time, by the time the LTE is launched, many users  will have just committed 3 years to Bell.

- I wonder how many people actually care about LTE. Although it is fast, how many people will actually need and look forward to the speed for downloading on the cellphone. IMO, the current technology is more than enough for basic web browsing on the phone.

At the end of the day, given a choice between a cool phone and a fast network, I think most people will pick the phone...

Not to mention the ludicrous pricing on their LTE service.

I've been with Rogers for ~10 years, have all my services (cable, internet, wireless) here. But their decision not to get Samsung Galaxy S2 might be the last nail in the coffin. If they don't care what customers want why stay with them? Looks like I will be switching my wireless to Bell, internet to Teksavvy and will get rid of the cable altogether. Not a big fan of Bell, but at least they got the phone I want.

On the off chance that someone at Rogers is reading this.... I really hope they will get the S2 because the fact that Bell has it coming out in 2 days is really really tempting, especially since my Rogers contract is just about to expire...........

My contract is expiring in a month.  I'm thinking of re-signing with Rogers to get a deal on their new phones (EVO 3d or whatever), and then sell it new in box on the market.  I will then buy a Samsung Galaxy S2 on the market with that money (and pay the difference).  Are you aware of any issues of unlocked SGS2 running on the Rogers network?

Thanks

Now there's a good idea.

@mnadeu33 You can use any unlocked GSM device with Rogers. I'm using an AT&T HTC Inspire 4G. Works no problem. Just gotta get the right APN settings in there :smileyhappy:

Thats not exactly true. I've seen 3G devices that will not connect with the Rogers 3G network because of the difference in supported bands (or frequencies) on the device. The original Nexus being an example (Nexus S works fine though).

I am a Rogers employee, but my comments are my own and do not necessarily represent the views of Rogers or its affiliates. Je suis un(e) employé(e) de Rogers mais mes commentaires sont les miens et ne reflètent pas nécessairement le point de vue de Rogers ou d’une société de son groupe.

@WiseD - any 3G phone that works on AT&T will work on Rogers' 3G network. Only phones that came from other US networks and/or asia may not be compatible with Rogers 3G
