HTC Dream Problems

For the last couple months now my Dream can barely stay charged for a full day.  If it's fully (or almost fully) charged when I go to bed by the time I get up the battery is dead.  Also, sometimes when I try to call and text people it sticks and does nothing so I have to cancel and start over.  Of course, all of this became unbearable shortly after my first year with the phone was up.  I have done a factory reset but it hasn't helped.

Any suggestions?

I wanted to add that I have an iden tical problem that just started a few weeks ago. My boyfriend, who bought his HTC Dream at the same time as I did (July 2009) starting having the issue as well. Rogers store told me to call tech support, tech support told me there's nothing I can do but send it in for repairs or buy a new phone. :smileysad: I hear this issue has been popping up everywhere with Rogers HTC Dreams. Sort of frustrating, since I use my phone for business and it continually crashes while speaking with clients.

Hi alliemackie and welcome to the forums,

Have you tried a factory reset? This will also delete all data from the device.

Menu Path:

From the Home screen, press the Menu button and select Settings

  • Select SD card & phone storage
  • Select Factory data reset
  • Select Reset phone
  • Select Erase everything
  • The device will dump all of the data and reload

Key stroke method (faster method):

  • Power the device OFF
  • Press the Home Key and the Power button until the device vibrates, the Rogers Logo Flashes, you will then have a screen with a Warning Triangle on it
  • Press the Home and Power buttons again
  • Once you get the System Recovery screen, select "wipe data/factory reset"
  • After you get the data wipe completion message, select "Reboot System"

i loved the phone when i first got it, now i absolutely hate it. calls started to drop, messaged would stop sending.. people can't even get a hold of me sometimes. battery life sucks, and now the memory card won't read.

i've heard the connection problems are an htc glitch, so save yourself the stress and don't bother getting an htc.

I don't know why your HTC Dream doesn't work correctly but I have used 4 HTC devices (including the Rogers HTC Magic) and none of them have connection problems.

HTC phones like the HTC Dream are very popular phones use/used by millions of people so if there was an HTC problem, 'we' would known by now.

I agree. I have changed my HTC Dream once already because of texts not going out, internet not connecting. It was fine for several months, and problems seem to begin, especially now I notice how I have to charge my phone at least twice a day if I am using the phone at all. I rely heavily on texting. Can anyone recommend a great for texting?

Omg I've been dealing with this problem and it's really frustrating. I bought an HTC Dream August of 2009. It was working perfectly until July 2010  when it stopped turning on. I did factory resets, EVERYTHING. I finally got a new one by Sept 2010 and lo and behold it drops calls, sometimes it takes FOREVER to call someone, texts don't send, I don't receive texts. Lemmi tell yah it's soo frustrating and because my warranty is up there's nothing Rogers can do. So it's either a Rogers problem or an HTC software problem. I'm gonna look into buying out my contract and move to another company or avoid HTC's altogether. When I do get my new phone i'll make sure to smash this one into tiny pieces!

I got my Dream Sept 2009.  It still works fine and I often get 24 + hours on a charge.  This is even with 2hrs or more surfing, games during commuting each day.

  • Keeping the brightness down helps.
  • Also a great little app is Apollo Task Killer that offers you  a list of running apps that you can kill.  By "Killing" the apps you'll really save the battery and you'll still receive calls and messages.
  • Try going to Menu, Settings, Wireless controls Mobile Networks Settings and de-select "Use only 3G networks". For extra measure select "Use only 2g networks" if/when  you don't need fast browsing.

Consider getting a little external backup such as the one I got at The Source for $20.  It'll give you 1/2 or better charge so you can always make a call.

My not getting some of the problems mentioned above might be due to not installing the "911 Patch" (911 still works!).

I really like the Dream and can't wait until a newer HTC with keypad comes along.

5 months ago i had the same problem. i had my phone reset, then i even deleted all appsi had downloaded. I had tried almost everything. then once i called rogers tech system and he told me its your battery. So i went online and ordered a new battery, and i must say my phone is working great now.

Before this i was at a point where when my phone was connected to my charger it worked fine but as soon as i took it off it went dead.
